The Male Gaze

'The male gaze' - Laura Mulvey 1975 (visual pleasure and narrative cinema)
The male gaze is a theory that is viewing from a hetrosexual males point of view, it says that there are 4 ways that the audience view media:

  • How men look at women
  • How women look at themselves
  • How women look at other women
  • Relegate women to objects - sexual objects

  • After watching the music video She's so lovely' by Scouting for girls, we were unable to answer the following questions:
    - What colour top was he and she wearing?
    - What bowling lane was used?
    - What colour belt did he and she wear?
    - What colour shoes did he and she wear?
    - What colour eyes did he and she have?
This was because the mains shots focused on this such as her lips, her body, and more sexual features.

    1. WWW: You have briefly explained this theory and shown understanding through highlighting key parts.
EBI: You need to explain the theory in more detail. You also need to link the homework to the theory. How is the theory shown in the task? How is it related? How does this prove the theory?
